10 km przed Ottawą czeka na nas Magda Pajewska- Lewandowska, pracowniczka ambasady Polski, wraz z przedstawicielkę ambasady Ukrainy oraz ambasadorem Litwy w Kanadzie. Wraz z Mateuszem, Arkiem, Jackiem i Romanem ruszają w kierunku downtown.
Po drodze spotykamy żylastego młodego mężczyznę z plecakiem- to biegacz oceniam. Wypytuje o cel biegu. Dajemy koszulkę, a on obiecuje dobiec do mety, ale po drodze ma do załatwienia jeszcze bardzo ważną sprawę. Czy mogę być na mecie o 17.30?
Na kilometr przed metą wszyscy łączymy się znów w biegu- ci co właśnie biegną i ci co już rano swoje kilometry wybiegali. Już chcemy ruszyć do wspólnych kilkuset metrów, kiedy z „wywieszonym językiem” dopada nas Ian, nasz nowy znajomy. Zdążyłem do 17.00. Tego typu sympatyków mamy po drodze mnóstwo.
Przed City Hall czeka na nas Andy z kilkudziesięcioma osobami. Od razu w oczy rzuca się grupa w ukraińskich strojach. Jest przedstawiciel prezydenta Justina Trudeau (prezydent zapowiedział swoją osobista obecność, ale zmuszony był wziąć udział w zjeździe G7), Mayor Irene Dudas, vice ambasador Polski, ambasador Ukrainy i Niemiec, wielu Gubernatorów i Past Gubernatorów kanadyjskich dystryktów.
Z nami jest także polska konsul Natalia Kubik. To jej interwencja pomogła Romanowi uzyskać kanadyjską wizę na kilkanaście godzin przed startem samolotu w podróż do Chicago. DZIĘKUJEMY!!!
Andy przekazuje towarzystwu ukraińskiemu czek na 4 500$ z przeznaczeniem na pomoc dla dzieci uciekinierów z Ukrainy, mieszkających obecnie w Kanadzie. To kolejny efekt naszego biegu LCR 2022. W sumie to już grubo ponad 10 000$. Razem z tym co zebraliśmy przed wyjazdem, zbliżamy się do 50 000 $. Takiej kwoty zebranej w jednym roku jeszcze w historii biegów nie mieliśmy. Z reguły najwięcej zbieramy przez kolejne 3-6 miesięcy po biegu. Bardzo chcielibyśmy, aby i w tym roku było podobnie
Wieczorem spotykamy się z Andy oraz miejscowymi Lionami pod Ottawą na pysznej kolacji. Jest okazja porozmawiać wymienić się poglądami, opowiedzieć o pomocy dla Ukrainy i dlaczego to jest aż takie ważne dla Polski i dla całego świata.
Zmęczeni, ale i szczęśliwi wracamy do hotelu. Jutro ostatnie 160 km- wielki finał przed nami. Cieszymy się na spotkanie z naszą, polską grupą z VP Patti Hill oraz wieloma znajomymi, zarówno tymi z poprzednich biegów, jak i z tymi właśnie poznanymi. Tworzymy coraz większą, szybko rosnącą rodzinę sympatyków Lions Charity Run. Zbudowało ją ponad 7 000 wspólnych kilometrów w 16 krajach i co jeszcze ważniejsze- wiele wspólnych projektów humanitarnych, tych zrealizowanych i tych, które właśnie przygotowujemy.
Jutro Montreal!
Close, close – one day before last, but what a day! The capital of the country, friends from Polish with my college mate Małgosia Boczkowski, representatives of the Embassies of Poland, Germany, Ukraine and Lithuania have already announced their presence at the finish line. There will also be Lions Clubs members with our great partner, the excellent organizer Andy Etherington.
10 km outside Ottawa, Magda Pajewska-Lewandowska, an employee of the Polish Embassy, is waiting for us, together with representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine and the Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada. Together with Mateusz, Ark, Jacek and Roman, they move towards downtown.
On the way we meet a sinewy young man with a backpack – he is a runner I presume. He asks about the purpose of the run. We give him a T-shirt and he promises to run to the finish line, but on the way he still has a very important matter to do. Can I be at the finish line at 17.30? he asks.
A kilometer before the finish line, we all run together again – those who are just running and those who have already run their kilometers in the morning. We already want to move to the common few hundred meters, when Ian, our new friend comes bustling about. ‘I made it at 17.00!’ We have a lot of such supporters along the way.
In front of City Hall, Andy with several dozen people is waiting for us. We immediately notice the group in Ukrainians wearing national costumes. There is a representative of President Justin Trudeau (the president announced his personal presence, but was forced to attend the G7 meeting), Mayor Irene Dudas, Polish Deputy Ambassador, Ambassadors of Ukraine and Germany, many Governors and Past Governors of Canadian Lions Districts.
The Polish consul Natalia Kubik is also with us. It was her intervention that helped Roman obtain a Canadian visa several hours before the plane took off on a trip to Chicago. THANK YOU!!!
Andy gives the Ukrainian society a check for $4,500 to help the children of refugees from Ukraine, currently living in Canada. This is another effect of our LCR 2022 run. In total, it’s well over $10,000. Together with what we collected before leaving home, we are approaching $ 50,000. We have not had such an amount collected in one year in the history of running. As a rule, we collect the most for the next 3-6 months after the run. We would very much like it to be similar this year J
In the evening we meet with Andy and the local Lions near Ottawa for delicious dinner. There is an opportunity to talk, exchange views, discuss aid to Ukraine and explain why it is so important for Poland and the whole world.
Tired but happy, we return to the hotel. Tomorrow the last 160 km – the grand finale is ahead of us. We are looking forward to meeting our Polish group with VP Patti Hill and many friends, both those from previous races and those we have just met. We are creating a fast-growing family of Lions Charity Run supporters. It has been built by more than 7,000 kilometers we run together in 16 countries and, even more importantly, by many joint humanitarian projects, those that have been completed and those in preparation.
