Pobudka 6:00 odbyła się bez problemu. Jet lag jeszcze działa choć słabnie, my jeszcze nie. Wybiegłem z poranną zmianą o 6.30.
Telefon rozładowany. Wieczorem telefonował Mark King z Niagara Falls z prośbą o wywiad online dzisiaj o 7.00. Zaraz wpisałem w telefonie przypominajkę na 6.30, ale telefon „zdechł”, więc nie było komu przypomnieć. Trochę zawiodłem potencjalnych słuchaczy. Zmęczenie daje się we znaki.
Kiedy wróciłem Daniela, 5 letnia córeczka naszej gospodyni Dzvinki właśnie wybierała się do szkoły. Założyliśmy jej naszą biegową koszulkę, w której wyglądała jak w żółtej sukience. W rączkę wzięła ulotki i dumna ze swojej misji pomaszerowała do szkoły. Przedtem obwieściła nam, że jej mama, babcia i prababcia są z Ukrainy i że tę Ukrainę kocha. Łza się w oku zakręciła. Daniela jest bezpieczna, dzieci w Ukrainie nie znają chwili spokoju i każdej momencie może ich spotkać wszystko co najgorsze.
Ok 14.00 wbiegamy przed siedzibę władz miasta. Wita na mer miasta Fred Eisenberger. Są przedstawiciele Lions Clubu DG Sandy Heeralal- Judham i Atma Shivbarran, imigrant z Gujany, równocześnie pracownik urzędu miasta. Znamy się wszyscy doskonale, tak jak z osobami z innych miast- z zooma. Teraz, gdy widzimy się osobiście, czujemy się jak starzy znajomi.
Są też przedstawiciele organizacji ukraińskich w Hamilton oraz Urszula Madey z polskiego Radia Bis, której udzielamy wywiadu.
Krótki posiłek i pędzimy nad Niagarę, gdzie czekają na nas lokalne kluby z Markiem Kingiem na czele.

To właśnie tą częścią wodospadu w 1901 r. na 63. urodziny spłynęła w … beczce amerykańska nauczycielka Annie Edson Taylor i potem przez kolejne 20 lat cieszyła się nadal dobrym zdrowiem. W 2017 na kajaku spłynął Niagarą meksykański kajakarz Rafa Ortiz. 51 metrów i 567 811 l na każdą sekundę nie wystraszył śmiałków. W tej sytuacji to nasze 1 026 000 m w 9 dni już tak nie zachwyca, ale staramy się jak tylko możemy

Nas Polaków większą dumą niż widok falującej sylwetki MM, napawa sama konstrukcja mostu wybudowanego w 1887 r. przez Stanisława Gzowskiego, polskiego inżyniera, emigranta Powstania Styczniowego. Nasz inżynier jest również autorem genialnego projektu kolei transandyjskiej, łączącej port w Limie z górskimi rejonami Peru.
W 1979 r. pracowałem przez 6 miesięcy jako inżynier serwisowy przy serwisie obrabiarek sterowanych numerycznie w spółce polsko- amerykańskiej Polamco, w Chicago. W jeden z weekendów udało nam się zorganizować wypad nad Niagarę. Zachwyciłem się jej pięknem i wielkością. Do głowy mi wtedy nie przyszło, że kiedyś zostanie podświetlona, w związku z organizowaną przez nas, Polaków akcją, mającą w rezultacie przynieść pomoc, sąsiedniemu krajowi- bratniej Ukrainie. Wszystko dzięki Lions Charity Run i największej organizacji humanitarnej na świecie Lions Clubs.

Day 5 – June 20, 2022
The wake-up call 6:00 took place without a problem. Jet lag still holds, although it weakens, but we do not yet. I ran out with the morning shift at 6.30.
Phone discharged. In the evening, Mark King from Niagara Falls called asking for an online interview today at 7:00 a.m. I immediately typed a reminder on the phone at 6.30, but the phone “died”, so there was no one to remind. I let the potential listeners down a bit. Fatigue takes its toll.
When I came back Daniela, our hostess Dzvinka’s 5-year-old daughter was just going to school. We put on her our running T-shirt, in which she looked like in a yellow dress. She picked up leaflets and, proud of her mission, marched to school. Before that, she announced to us that her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were from Ukraine and that she loved ‘this’ Ukraine.
Tears in my eyes… Daniela is safe, children in Ukraine do not know a moment of peace and at any moment they can lose everything.
Around 14.00 we run in front of the city hall. The Mayor Fred Eisenberger welcomes us. There are representatives of the Lions Club DG Sandy Heeralal-Judham and Atma Shivbarran, an immigrant from Guyana, at the same time an employee of the city hall. We all know each other very well, as with people from other cities – from our Zoom meetings. Now that we see each other in person, we feel like old friends.
There are also representatives of Ukrainian organizations in Hamilton and Urszula Madey from the Polish Radio Bis, to whom we give an interview.
A short meal and we rush to Niagara, where local clubs with Mark King as the leader await us.
First, we meet in the Greek Catholic Church during the blessing ceremony of Ukraine, he mentions the plight of this country. The ceremony is led by a nice pop, who, as it turns out, is a Pole with Ukrainian roots and studied at the Catholic University of Lublin.
After the blessing, there is a meeting prepared especially in our honor with the mayor of Niagara Falls, as well as with the Member of Parliament from this region and local Lions. Of course, the topics of the war in Ukraine and the necessary assistance are discussed. We runners have the pleasure of listening to many nice words towards us.
Our efforts, achievements so far and the noble, much needed charity goal are greatly appreciated. This gives us wings to the other four days of running.
After the ceremony, together with Mark King and DG Sandy, we go to the waterfall. It’s an hour’s drive. Sandy came from Toronto today, and that’s nearly 100 km. Now another 100 back and forth, and then again 100 km to Toronto. Together it is 400 km, just to support us. Thank you Sandy!
Mark did something extraordinary. He managed to convince the mayor of the city and his subordinate services to highlight the Niagara Falls: one in the color of the Lions logo (blue-gold), the other, the more famous and picturesque Horse Shoe (horseshoe), in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. This has not been recorded in the history of our runs yet!
Niagara consists of two waterfalls, the smaller one, where the American-Canadian border runs is Bride Veil Falls (wedding veil) is about 30 m high and about 300 m wide, and at the end of the boulders and rocks, God forbid someone flows down the Niagara River and forgets to brake. This part of Niagara was illuminated in the colors of Lions Clubs blue and gold.
The second part, only Canadian, is larger (50 m high and 800 m wide) and more picturesque and is arranged in a horseshoe, hence its name. It was this part of the waterfall in 1901 that on her 63rd birthday an American teacher Annie Edson Taylor flew down in a … barrel and for the next 20 years continued to enjoy good health.
In 2017, Mexican kayaker Rafa Ortiz sailed on a kayak in Niagara. 51 meters and 567 811 l for every second did not scare the daredevils. In this situation, our 1,026,000 m in 9 days is not so impressive, but we try our best.

We Poles are more proud than the sight of the undulating silhouette of MM, the very construction of the bridge built in 1887 by Stanisław Gzowski, a Polish engineer, emigrant of the January Uprising. Our engineer is also the author of a brilliant design of the Trans-Andean railway, connecting the port of Lima with the mountainous regions of Peru.
In 1979 I worked for 6 months as a service engineer at the service of numerically controlled machine tools in the Polish-American company Polamco, in Chicago. On one of the weekends we managed to organize a trip to Niagara. I was amazed by its beauty and greatness. It did not occur to me then that one day it would be highlighted, in connection with the action organized by us, Poles, which as a result was to bring help to the neighboring country – brotherly Ukraine. All thanks to Lions Charity Run and the largest humanitarian organization in the world Lions Clubs International.

London – Hamilton 2022-06-20
In London we had home hospitality. Dzvinka invited Mariusz and me to stay at her home and picked us up. Dzwinka emigrated in 1997 in the age of twelve from Ukraine to Kanada. She is living together with her five-year-old daughter Daniella, her mother Daria and her grandmother Vira who came from Ukraine two years ago.
We were very warm welcomed from all of them and fully integrated into family. Their hospitality was amazing and very warm.
We are still suffering from jetlag that ‘s why we start running very early to run 12 kilometers for the day. We observe neighborhood and meet Mateusz und Arek who are staying very close to us.
Before driving to Hamilton, we meet all together again in Ukrainian Center. Daria Hrickiw, Cultural Manager from Cultural Ukrainian Congress welcomes us for breakfast.
Then we take our team car going to Hamilton.
At finish line in front of City Hall about twenty Lions and members of Ukrainian community expect us. DG Sandy Heerslal-Judhan, district A711 and Lion Atma Shivbarran welcome us very warm on behalf of Lions Clubs in district A-711.
Mayor Fred Eisenberg reports that there is lots of help from Hamilton for Ukraine. Ukrainian community counts about 10.000 people. A delegation of Ukrainians greets us traditional with bread and salt. They are very grateful and happy about our aim to attract attention of what happens in Ukraine and give help for Ukrainian children.
The present exhibition „Images of war“ in City Hall with photos from Ukraine war 2014 – 2022 is very moving. We realize once more our aim to help children in Ukraine and we are still more motivated.
As time runs by, we eat takeaway in the team car on our way to Niagara-Falls. We participate in holy mass in Ukrainian Church, priest prays for victims of the war and for our safe trip.
Lions from LC Chippawa invite us for meeting, introduction, and presentation of Lions Charity Run. President Marc Anthony King moderates meeting, there are also Veterans from Royal Canadian Legion 479 participating and president of Kiwanis as well.
We notice again, our activity is always highly appreciated, everybody is so grateful to us about our commitment.
LC Chippawa, as many Lions Clubs in Canada, run own Lionshouse. We visit after meeting. There is meeting room downstairs and studio for recording and vocals. They work together with youth.

We spend time in Niagara Falls until darkness to see illuminated Falls by night.
Last highlight of the day is illumination of American Falls in purple/Gold for Lions colors and of Horseshoe falls in blue/yellow for Ukrainian colors at 10.15 pm. Very impressive, amazing – they are colored like this just for us!!! For LCR-Happy Team.
Going back for overnight stay in Hamilton, Check-in at 1 pm for a short night.

Lions from LC Chippawa invite us for meeting, introduction, and presentation of Lions Charity Run. President Marc Anthony King moderates meeting, there are also Veterans from Royal Canadian Legion 479 participating and president of Kiwanis as well.
We notice again, our activity is always highly appreciated, everybody is so grateful to us about our commitment.
LC Chippawa, as many Lions Clubs in Canada, run own Lionshouse. We visit after meeting. There is meeting room downstairs and studio for recording and vocals. They work together with youth.
Marc and DG Sandy take us to Niagara Falls for sightseeing trip.
We are very impressed by the strength of this Lots of water.
We spend time in Niagara Falls until darkness to see illuminated Falls by night.
Last highlight of the day is illumination of American Falls in purple/Gold for Lions colors and of Horseshoe falls in blue/yellow for Ukrainian colors at 10.15 pm. Very impressive, amazing – they are colored like this just for us!!! For LCR-Happy Team.
Going back for overnight stay in Hamilton, Check-in at 1 pm for a short night.
Expecting next day with meeting other friends and feeling like being in a very big family.
